Tree Stump Removal

What is Tree Stump removal?

Tree stump removal is the process of completely eliminating the remaining portion of a tree after it has been cut down, leaving no visible trace of the stump.

There are multiple methods for stump removal:

  • Stump Grinding: This is the most common technique. A stump grinder is used to chip away the stump, breaking it down into small wood chips. The depth of grinding depends on the desired level for replanting or repurposing the area.
  • Manual Removal: Digging out the stump manually is another option. It involves using tools like an axe, mattock, or shovel to uproot the stump and its roots. This method is labor-intensive and time-consuming.
  • Chemical Removal: Chemicals can be used to accelerate the decomposition f the stump. Chemicals are applied to the stump, causing it to rot over time. This method is slow and may take several weeks or months.

The choice of the appropriate method really depends on things like stump size, type of tree, location, and desired end result. A successful tree stump removal not only eliminates the obstacle but also prepares the area for new planting, construction, or any other purpose you envision.

Our Approach

For most of our projects, Stump grinding is our preferred method as it outperforms other techniques.

Tree stump grinding is a widely used and effective approach to eliminating tree stumps from the ground. It entails employing a specialised machine known as a stump grinder, which features a rotating cutting disk with sharp teeth that systematically grind the stump and its roots into small wood chips.

The process begins by positioning the stump grinder over the stump. The rotating disk of the grinder is then lowered onto the stump, gradually grinding it down to a predetermined depth. This depth can vary depending on specific needs, whether for replanting, landscaping, or complete removal of any remnants.

Stump grinding not only removes the visible portion of the stump but also grinds the roots below the surface, significantly reducing the chances of new growth.

After the grinding process is complete, the remaining wood chips can be used as mulch or disposed of, leaving the area clear and ready for alternative landscaping or construction. This method is efficient, quicker than other techniques, and minimises ground disturbance compared to manual stump removal.

Tree Removal Advice

Inadequate experience and a lack of proper training in tree care practices have the potential lead to serious tree damage or even damage to your property or the people around you.

Removing large trees is a specialised task that requires professional expertise and often involves several steps:

Assessment, Safety Measures, Tree Felling, Sectioning, Stump Removal and Cleanup.

It is essentially taken down section by section, or if space allows removed all in one go using a crane.

When removing a tree, we can either leave the stump in place, or if needed, use our stump grinder machine and remove the leftover stump upon request.

Nick and his friendly team took down a selection of trees that were growing right up against our house. The whole process, from the initial site visit to the removal was very professional and we are delighted with the result. The team was respectful of our garden and they took great care to leave our garden very tidy.
